The Wedding Veil: A Tradition that Triumphed Through Changing Times

• August 4th, 2015 •

The wedding veil is timeless. Simple, elegant and beautiful, brides wear them to complete their look with their perfect dress. But a veil is so much more than just an accessory. For centuries, brides have worn them on the most important day of their lives.

The wedding veil tradition started in Ancient Rome and Greece when marriages were typically arranged. They were worn as protection from evil spirits and to hide their face from the groom until the appropriate moment during the ceremony. Veils used to come in bright and bold colors; they were rarely white until culture evolved and symbols changed. The color white represents purity and goodness, and that’s how every bride wants to look on her special day.

Modern brides have taken a fashionable approach to the wedding veil. There are different lengths and different shades of white, some are beaded and some have lace. Our brides always look effortlessly beautiful, and the simplicity of a veil compliments that so well.

Classic Veil

Below is Diane (top), looking stunning in her classic and timeless veil. Laura (bottom) looks elegant with her lace-trimmed veil. These are some of the most common types of veils, also known as fingertip veils that come just below the waist.

Cathedral Veil

A cathedral veil is one that touches the floor and is the most traditional type of veil. Melissa (top) and Heather (bottom) look fancy yet graceful because of the added touch from their veils.

Blusher Veil

The blusher veil isn’t as common, but works especially well with very bold or embellished dresses. Blusher veils just barely cover the face, so the dress still draws in the most attention. Our brides Liz (top) and Kassie (bottom) look chic and stunning. Blusher veils are perfect for a vintage style wedding. They also remind us of old Hollywood!

Flyaway Veil

Another type of veil that can help keep the attention on the dress is the flyaway veil. This veil only comes to the bride’s shoulders. Julie’s veil is very understated but very beautiful.
